Policy of 12 months warranty and 30 days refund.

My uncle has an XPS M2010 (http://www.dell.com/us/dfh/p/xps-m2010/pd) which was failing to boot for him. I managed to get the machine to boot once, but quickly had corruption issues in the display and Windows locked up. A few Google searches later, the video card seemingly was the common culprit. After I managed to tear down the machine and remove the video card, the fans would at least spin up and keep running, giving more evidence that the video card was the problem. Video cards run about $160 on eBay if the card is working and $50 for “as-is” cards.

This video card gets pretty hot and anything that gets hot and cools down repeatedly will expand and contract. This can cause the solder to crack and shift until the connections start to fail. A solution is to get the solder hot enough to re-flow, but not so hot that it runs or drips. After a little research, 10 minutes at 300 degrees seemed a safe starting point. I removed heat sink and thermal paste before putting it in the oven. I made little aluminum foil legs to keep the card off of the baking sheet.

I allowed the card to cool off and put it back in.

SUCCESS!
